Atlanta has been disappointing in this early season, as they lost their first two games. However, I think this matchup against Milwaukee will be favorable to them and that the Bucks will need some extra time to be at their best. The Hawks are now using a more spread out offense that has their two guards Young and Murray as their motor. They still use a lot of pick n roll on offense and now with Jrue Holiday gone, Milwaukee has now Lillard and a combo of guards in the lineup that aren’t good on defense. Philadelphia scored 20 fast break points against them, Maxey had a big game against them and I believe Atlanta should have similar edges on transition with both Young and Murray having big games.

I believe the Hawks will blitz Lillard today (they did that on the first 2 games) and Milwaukee isn’t a sharp passing team that can explore this kind of tactic from Atlanta. In fact, the Bucks only had 20 assists in their game against Philadelphia even though they scored 118 points.

This game should have a frenetic pace from the start as we are in front of two elite teams in transition that will push the ball in every chance they have. Matchup wise, I believe both offenses will have the edge over the defenses. The Lakers’ offense is focused on attacking the rim and they have +40% volume shots at the rim so far this season and this is an area where Sacramento struggles on defense. Note that the Jazz is also a team that focuses on attacking the paint and scored 64 points in the paint against them.

On the other hand, Sacramento is a pure shooting team with a high volume% of 3pts. They are coming from a subpar game against Golden State where they shot 12-40 3pts but they were unlucky as they only hit 6-22 on wide open 3pts. The Lakers’ defense is at their best with AD patrolling the paint but Sacramento isn’t the kind of team that will search for shots at the rim. The Lakers had a very favorable matchup against Phoenix without Beal and Booker, as the Suns struggled to create good outside shots but that won’t be the case of Sacramento tonight.
