NYK is coming from one of their worst offensive performances of the season against the Cavs. The main culprit was their inability to hit wide open 3pts shots (23.8% 3pts on 24.4% volume), but they also scored fewer than 10 fast break points (9) for the first time in 15 games. After the game, NYK’s coach said the following:
“One of the things we have to do better, especially offensively, is play with pace,” Brown said. “Our pace isn’t good. We have to do a better job of getting to the corners. We have to do a better job of playing with pace in the frontcourt. … It was a tough loss, ugly game overall (on Tuesday). We’ve got to get back and figure out what we need to do to get a win on Friday.”
Therefore, we can expect NYK to play with a better tempo, faster pace and against the Bucks defense, I expect an offensive bounce back for them.
On the other side, MIL is on a good run right now, they have adapted to play without Giannis by using a more spread offense with very good perimeter shooting. In their last 6 games, they have averaged 121.2 Off. Rates with just one bad performance: 98.4 vs. TOR. However, note that TOR has one of the most active and pressure defenses in the league and they bothered MIL’s ball handlers.
For this contest, I expect MIL guards to cause problems to NYK’s defense via Pick and roll targeting Brunson & KAT. So, with a better offensive attitude from the Knicks and this improved MIL offense as of late, I expect a nice offensive game from both teams.
