DET offense has been a subpar unit so far this season, but today they have a particularly bad matchup against the Knicks defense. DET offensive motor is predicated in driving to the basket (ranked #2 in vol%) and they really need to be effective in this area as their perimeter shooting has been very inconsistent. In the last game against the Celtics, they were able to generate 46 pts via drives (16-30 FG) against a Celtics team that is subpar at defending FG% vs. drives.
This is not going to be the case against the Knicks defense that is ranked #1 in FG% allowed in drives to the basket. NYK also has been good at defending pick and roll plays vs. ball handlers, so they are a bad matchup for DET offense.
On the other end, the Pistons allowed 128 points to the Celtics in the last game. They just couldn’t defend BOS’s forwards as Tatum, Brown and Hauser combined to score 85 pts against them. Well, the Knicks don’t have such skillful offensive forwards, so I expect them to be better today in here.
