This is a terrible spot for both teams and I believe that it will affect the pace of the game as both teams won’t have the same tempo that they normally showcase. Denver is coming from a dramatic comeback win at Golden State last night and tonight’s game will start less than 21 hours after that. On the other hand, Orlando will play their last game of the road trip and they are coming from a double OT game at Sacramento. The fact that this game will be played under the high altitude of Denver will only make things tougher. As expected, Golden State struggled to contain Jokic as they lacked the proper size to limit him. However, Orlando has more size on the frontcourt and should be able to limit Jokic better. Orlando will however be shorthanded today without Wagner and their offensive performance at Sacramento was mind blowing as they struggled to score inside against a poor Sacramento defense, but managed to hit 25-44 3pts with 53% of those threes being guarded, something extremely hard to repeat especially as they aren’t normally a good 3pts team. Orlando’s offense normally relies on transition sets and at attacking the paint and this spot isn’t the ideal one for them to get great transition numbers.

I considered having a play on Atlanta FG but the difference of performance from both teams on the clutch this season is mind blowing: IND #2 vs ATL #28. So, I will be taking Atlanta but on a 1H play. Before tonight’s game, Atlanta had a good warm up test against Oklahoma City, as the Thunder’s fast paced offense led by a ball dominant guard is similar to Indiana’s style. If we take away the clutch struggles from Atlanta, the Hawks exploited some edges that they will also have today: rebounding and FT shooting, as the Hawks had a 57.0% rebound rate and a terrific 31-33 mark at the FT line. Indiana is ranked #28 and #29 in these two defensive categories. Naturally Atlanta will have issues in defending Indiana’s offense, but with Jalen Johnson back from injury, the Hawks are now more versatile. In the first game between these two teams this season, Indiana won on the road by 157-152 but Atlanta was the better in the 1H when they outscored Indiana by 86-73.
