Portland will play their third and final game of this Eastern road trip tonight and they are coming from a hard fought battle against Toronto where they achieved their first win of the season. I believe this will be a bad spot for them and also a poor matchup for them against this Detroit team. Toronto scored 22 fast break points and 60 points in the paint against them, however that didn’t prevent Portland from winning the game as Toronto shot an incredibly poor 4-29 3pts.

Detroit has been a very physical team and they once again won their boards battle against Oklahoma City in the team’s last game. However, the Pistons were unable to stop Shai-Gilgeous Alexander but today their task will be easier against rookie Scoot Henderson, who has been having a rough season so far. I get that Duren being out is a blow for the Pistons, but their bench has been very solid and Monty Williams has been able to make all his players play hard no matter what. I expect Detroit to have a considerable physical edge on this matchup with Cade Cunningham having a good matchup against Portland’s guards.

Houston is still winless so far in the season, but they have been a much improved team this season when compared with last year. The main reason for that is their much improved defense. Charlotte is coming from a bad home loss against Brooklyn, where they couldn’t defend the Nets’ small ball lineups. Brooklyn ran them over with 28 fast break points and 64 points in the paint with Charlotte’s coach deciding to match Brooklyn by also using plenty of small ball lineups. This was a bad idea because their best defensive player is their Center Mark Williams…

For today, the matchup will be good for a defensive bounce back from the Hornets. Houston plays with a traditional Center in Sengun and the Rockets haven’t been a fast paced team so far this season, quite the contrary actually. Also Houston’s offense is still a work in progress with their defense being way ahead in terms of development in comparison with their offense. I expect a big effort from Houston looking for their first win while Charlotte is looking for a defensive bounce back. Hence, I believe this will be a low scoring ugly game.
